What is self storage and how does it work?

It’s flexible ‘do-it-yourself’ storage for your home, your business – your life.  Kangaroo Self Storage provides secure, clean, dry individual storage rooms from 16 sq ft up. You store your belongings yourself in your dedicated room – which is locked with your own padlock ensuring that only you have access to your goods.

We also have warehouse space for pallets and bulk storage requirements in some stores. Return to FAQs

What do I need to bring to start storing?

Please bring the following:

    • Two forms of ID, one should be photographic (driver’s licence, passport etc) and the other should have your address on it (utility bill etc)
    • Payment (bank account information, credit/debit card)
    • An alternative contact name, address and phone number
    • A padlock (we sell them if you forget and they’re not included as part of your package)
    • An estimate of the value of goods to be stored
    • Insurance cover note – so that we can verify that your policy covers your goods whilst in our storage unit. If you do not have appropriate insurance cover, don’t worry, we sell insurance cover to meet your needs.

How much does it cost to store my things with you?

The cost of storage depends largely upon the size of storage unit you require.  We suggest that you look at either our size estimator or speak to a member of our staff to determine the optimum storage unit for your requirements.  A price can then be quoted on the correct sized storage room.  There are discounts available for longer-term storage. Return to FAQs

What is included in the price – are there any hidden extras?

The price you are quoted by our team includes your storage rental, rates, service charges, utility bills and maintenance costs.

You will need a padlock to secure your room.

And, whilst your goods are in storage they will also need to be insured.

A refundable security deposit equal to two weeks’ storage charge is payable at the commencement of storage at some of our stores and is refunded when you vacate your storage room. Return to FAQs

Do I have to pay a security deposit?

Yes, some of our stores do charge a security deposit, like many other storage companies.  Where it is charged, this is equivalent of two weeks rental as standard for domestic storage units.  Larger deposits may be taken for commercial or bespoke storage requirements.  This will be discussed with you when you come to sign your storage agreement. Return to FAQs

Are my goods insured?

No goods are not insured automatically.  However, you must ensure your belongings are insured whilst they are in storage and our team will ask you to confirm this when you come to sign your agreement.  Most household contents policies do not cover goods in storage.  If you do not have suitable insurance in place we can arrange to cover you through our new for old policy when you move in.  If you need advice please speak to the team. Return to FAQs

Why do I need my own padlock?

You need your own padlock to ensure that you are the sole key holder for your room. If you don’t have one you can buy one from our Box Shop  – along with any other packaging materials you might need. Return to FAQs

Do I pay weekly or monthly?

We invoice customers on a four weekly (twenty eight day) basis payable in advance. However, we only ask for fourteen days’ notice when you vacate your room and we refund any unused storage charge. Return to FAQs

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes, we offer a range of discounts including:

  • An introductory offer for new customers – at most stores it’s 50% off storage charges for up to twelve weeks’ storage – see our special offers page for the current offers at each store, or call us for more details. This discount provides great value for short term storers, such as home movers.

For longer term storers we also offer the following pre-payment discounts:

  • 5% off storage charge for 6 months prepayment.
  • 10% off storage charge for 12 months prepayment.

For Members of the Military and Blue Light Services – We also offer a 10% discount on production of a valid ID.

From time to time we also have discounts on our boxes and packaging.  Ask for details. T&Cs apply to all offers and store managers reserve the right to withdraw any offers.  Return to FAQs

Do I have to sign a lease?

No you don’t.  You sign a straightforward storage service agreement prior to moving into your room. The agreement comprises a simple “no fuss” contract. The contract takes a few minutes to complete and you can do it online if you prefer. Return to FAQs

Do you do removals/van hire?

No, we are purely a self-storage centre.  You can bring your goods in your own vehicle if you have enough space.  We have ample car parking and large loading/unloading areas.

However, at some of our stores we offer a free collection service for customers storing in excess of at least 12 weeks.  But remember, you are responsible for loading and unloading your belongings.  (Ts and Cs apply).

Or we can offer free van hire (standard Transit Van or equivalent) for 24 hours via our preferred van hire company.  Again you are responsible for loading and unloading your belongings. (Ts and Cs apply).

For those who need or prefer a greater level of support, we can also suggest local removal companies, some of which we have negotiated discounted rates with for Kangaroo customers. Return to FAQs
